Meet the artist: Bilal Bashir

1. Please introduce yourself?
Greetings my name is Bilal Bashir.
2. From where?
I was born in the Bronx but I now live in Los Angeles.
3. Music influences?
Whew! I have so many, but my earliest musical influences came from my mother. When I was very young I can remember my mother playing music all the time. As I got a little older in the early 70's I discovered a sound that I really gravitated too. At the time I didn't know it was going to be called hip hop...I just knew that I loved the sound. Around the same time a cousin of mine was a member of a very influential hip hop group at the time called "Grand Master Flash & the Furious 5" his name was Keith Wiggins AKA "Cowboy" RIP. Cowboy and Grand Master Flash really sparked me in the direction of hip hop. I really loved the dj aspect of hip hop and wanted to become a dj myself. another cousin of mine who lived in queens at the time was a dj as well. When we would go visit he would show the basics of djing. I knew that I wanted to become a dj. In those days I was more focused to becoming a block party dj and it was more of a hobby thing.
4. Debut appearance on production?
My very first profession production was more of a co-production with rap artist Def Jeff and Egyptian lovers brother Dave Brousard. We had an independent release called "Have you See her" featuring the group "Troop".
5. Who are some of the artists that you have produced for?
Def Jef, Divine Styler, Everlast, Styles of beyond, Ice T, 7A3, Cyress Hill, Mello Man Ace, King Tee, Tha Alkoholiks, Ice Cube, Dr Dre, Donald D, Salt n pepa.
6. When did you start to produce?
I caught the production bug in the early 80's.
7. Best moment for you in hip hop?
For me is when the technology allowed producers to sample breaks and have them loop. That allowed the producer's, dj's, mc's to really get creative musically.
8. Any plans for a tour or shows in the near future?
Hopefully in 06' I will get the opportunity to get back on the road.
9. What's next?
In 06' I will have several releases coming from my alter ego "Dr Bashir" so be on the look out.
10. Shout outs?
Yeah!!!! Big shout out to all my family, friends, fans, peace...

Thanks for the support!

News update: Eddie Meeks, Mr. Skurge & Thaione Davis

New review for Eddie Meeks

From Hip Hop Connection Magazine:
Eddie Meeks
"After This...I'll Holla (On Everythang I Love)"
Domination
***
Real name no gimmicks
Memphis-via-Atlanta loudmouth Eddie Meeks sure ain't afraid to stick the boot in. And though this is far from the first rap album to chew on beef, in Prophetix crewmate Jon Doe, Meeks has captivating production artillery to back up his verbal assaults. Take 'Fist Fulla Biscuits', which takes a pop or five at Young Buck - that may be a target wider than America itself, but with such fine tunes behind the aggro, it's tough to argue. Adam Anonymous
